About Bay Plaza
The Bay Plaza Shopping Center is the largest shopping center in New York City. It has been a prospering center of retail in the North Bronx for well over 25 years. Over that time period it has become extremely successful, the center currently holds some of the highest performing stores on a per-square-foot basis for many national, best-in-class retailers. Originally built in 1988 by Prestige Properties, the center has continually expanded and improved.
However, Prestige always believed a first-class, suburban-style fashion mall would flourish on the site due to its ideal location, right at the crossroads of The Bronx and Westchester. Hence the concept of the Mall at Bay Plaza was born. This new state-of-the-art mall will be located on a corner parcel at the intersection of the Hutchinson River Parkway and I-95 where a combined 250,000 cars pass a day. Once completed, the project will encompass a total of 780,000 square feet of retail space and include a 1,800-car parking garage.
The Mall at Bay Plaza will be the first enclosed anchored fashion mall in the New York City area in almost 40 years, the last being Queens Center in 1973. The Mall at Bay Plaza is anticipated to open in 2014. To help Prestige reach this vision they hired the world class Los Angeles-based architectural firm Altoon & Porter Architects. Altoon and Porter has a history of building world-class malls both nationally and internationally.
